HP · Financial · 2006 (limited edition)
In 2006 HP marked twenty-five years of the 12C with a limited edition, and it chose the Platinum to do it. So the 25th Anniversary Edition is a Platinum underneath, with RPN and algebraic modes, up to 400 program steps, parentheses and the faster GPLB31A processor of the 2005 models. Wikipedia says Victor launched its V12 look-alike in 2007 to cash in on how hard the anniversary edition was to find. The CFA Institute names it in its calculator policy, so it's as exam-legal as any 12C. It's a collector's piece first: the calculator inside is a standard Platinum, so pay for the anniversary edition only if you want the anniversary edition.

Should come with it
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing piece should come off the price.
No documented faults. The risk is paying an anniversary premium for a standard Platinum, so check the markings and box.
New to old calculators? The condition checklist covers battery corrosion, displays, keys and card readers, and RPN in one hour gets you typing on an HP.
Buying guide
We'd buy the anniversary edition titled tested with its holster at $35 delivered, about $5 under the $40 median. There are at least 41 for sale, most asking $35 to $50 delivered, which is barely more than a plain Platinum, and many come with HP's anniversary holster. Underneath it's a 2006 Platinum with parentheses and both RPN and ALG modes, so a photo in ALG mode is normal. Look for the 25th Anniversary Edition script on the plate and ask whether the box comes with it, since none here is titled with one. Skip the $86 listing whose first photo shows only the holster, about twice the median.
